President's Message

Welcome to the Military Officers Association of America, California Council of Chapters (CALMOAA). As President, I am honored to represent our 23 Chapters and more than 1,200 members across the state. Together we are One Powerful Voice for California’s Active Duty, Veterans, retirees, surviving spouses, and their families.

Advocacy is at the heart of everything we do. We work tirelessly to protect earned benefits, strengthen survivor protections, and influence legislation that affects the lives of those who served. Whether we’re meeting with lawmakers in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., supporting local County Veterans Service Officers, or mobilizing grassroots action across districts, CALMOAA brings focused experience, moral authority, and sustained pressure to ensure Veterans’ needs remain a priority.

Our strength comes from unity — from Chapters that share best practices, from members who volunteer their time and expertise, and from partnerships with other Veteran service organizations. We also invest in the future through scholarships, community programs, and outreach that help retain and attract service-minded talent to California’s workforce.

I invite every Veteran, family member, and supporter to join us: get involved at the Chapter level, share your story, and raise your voice when policy decisions affect our community. When we act together, we protect what matters most and honor the service that built this nation.

Thank you for visiting our website  and for your commitment to those who have served. If you’d like to get involved or learn more about our advocacy priorities, please contact us at info@calmoaa.org.

Respectfully,
Ramona Chávez, Capt. U.S.A.F. (ret)
President, California Council of Chapters
Military Officers Association of America (CALMOAA)

Building Momentum

2025 - 2026 CALMOAA Board of Directors

CALMOAA: Building Momentum in Our First Ten Months

The new CALMOAA Board of Directors hit the ground running — delivering measurable progress and renewed energy across the Council. In just ten months, we’ve made major strides to strengthen advocacy, improve communication, and expand opportunities for California’s Veterans and their families.

Key Accomplishments

  • Delivered a Landmark Victory: Helped pass California’s new military retirement tax exemption, a historic win for military retirees and surviving spouses.

  • Launched the New CALMOAA.net: A modern, accessible website designed to keep members informed, share chapter resources, and spotlight advocacy efforts statewide.

  • Partnered with MOAA Vacations: Sponsored two California cruises that expand fellowship and generate new revenue for CALMOAA programs.

  • Modernized Our Bylaws: Updated to reflect best practices for nonprofit governance and strengthen operational transparency.

  • Enhanced Collaboration Tools: Rolled out digital resources to support coordinated advocacy, bill tracking, and chapter communication.

Looking Ahead

These accomplishments reflect CALMOAA’s renewed focus on revitalization — connecting chapters, empowering members, and advocating with One Powerful Voice for California’s military community.
